FACTS

They say numbers don't lie and we certainly hold that to be true. Check out these statistics, study results, factoids, and informational tidbits on the issues we're trying to address.

THE

HIGHEST DEATH RATE DUE TO AIR POLLUTION

According to the World Health Organization, an average of 1.5 million premature deaths resulting from toxic air contaminants are reported in India annually.

 5,650

Farmer suicide cases were reported by the National Crime Records Bureau of India in 2014 alone.

AIR POLLUTION IS A SIGNIFICANT RISK FACTOR FOR A NUMBER OF HEALTH CONDITIONS, INCLUDING RESPIRATORY INFECTIONS, HEART DISEASE, COPD, STROKE, AND LUNG CANCER.

 35%

Of air pollution in Asia is a result of exhaust from vehicles and inefficient industrial systems, the Health Effects Institute noted.

TOXIC POLLUTANTS IN THE AIR ACCUMULATE OVER TIME, HAVING A DEVASTATING IMPACT ON WILDLIFE AND THE ECOSYSTEMS THEY MAKE UP. MANY ANIMALS ARE BORN WITH BIRTH DEFECTS OR DEVELOP DANGEROUS CONDITIONS AS A RESULT OF THESE ENVIRONMENTAL STRESS FACTORS.

EVERY 32 MINUTES

A farmer commits suicide, according to India's National Crime Records Bureau.

RESEARCH CONDUCTED BY ECONOMIST ARVIND PANAGARIYA REVEALED THAT THE THREE LEADING CAUSES FOR FARMER SUICIDE ARE FAILURE OF CROPS, DEBT BURDEN, AND PRICE CRASH.

50% LESS CROP YIELDS

It was reported that air pollution by ground level ozone had cut crop yields by almost half in 2010 when compared to 1980 in India.

27%

Of India's rural farmer population is under the poverty line.

FIFTH-LARGEST KILLER

Air pollution recently claimed this title in India.

80 HOURS PER WEEK

That's the amount of time an average farming family spends working. In turn, the annual income is only 3000 dollars, a significant amount of which is taken away due to debt, according to the International Journal of Commerce and Management Research.

DROUGHT, CROP FAILURE, AND ARID LAND CAN THROW FARMERS INTO A PRECARIOUS FINANCIAL POSITION, FROM WHICH MANY ARE NEVER ABLE TO RECOVER.

THE LARGEST WAVE OF RECORDED SUICIDES IN HISTORY

The nearly quarter million farmers who have committed suicide in the past 16 years comprises the largest recorded wave of suicides in history.
